The Health business segment ended 2006 with excellent results and a portfolio of 1,5 million insured clients. Aware of the importance given by organizations to the promotion of the health and wellbeing of their employees, as well as the optimal control of health insurance expenditure, SulAmérica developed new products – such as SulAmérica Saúde Fit, reformulated SulAmérica Saúde PME and strengthened the SulAmérica Saúde Ativa programme.

SulAmérica Saúde Fit is ideal for companies wanting to optimise expenditure on health insurance and at the same time offer employees a quality product. The insurance policy, launched in 2006 only on the São Paulo market, is aimed at companies with over 50 employees and can be contracted in conjunction with other company health insurance packages. Also in 2006, SulAmércia Saúde PME, aimed at small to medium-sized businesses, was totally reformulated – with new pricing and expanded to the national level – ensuring highly successful sales.

The company also invested in SulAmérica Saúde Ativa, a programme developed to promote employees’ health and quality of life, optimising investments in health insurance. The programme has already benefited around 70,000 people in over 120 organisations, making SulAmérica a benchmark for preventive medicine. The programme was the principal theme of the SulAmérica Saúde product advertising campaign, aired in the second half of the year and planned to impact company executives responsible for decision-making on health insurance purchases.

The continuation of the successful automatization of internal processes and optimisation of operating costs begun in 2005 enabled the company to end 2006 with excellent results. Income from policies grew by 3.4% over 2005, totalling R$ 3.5 billion, while the portfolio’s ratio of average claims by clients per cost-of-policy fell 2.4 percentage points, from 81.3% in 2005 to 78.9% in 2006. Hospital admissions totaled 180,000, with 30 million clinical tests and 11 million doctor’s appointments.
